HOME AT THE INN
What better way to spend a quiet evening than to write a poem in the good company of a friendly dog or cat?
Ode to the Scottie
The Scottie is a feisty dog On this you can depend Bred to be a hunter And to be the Scotsman's friend
In his native land of Scotland Always at his master's side You might see them walking Along the River Clyde
For the Scottie is a loyal pal On whom you can rely His manner may be very bold But his heart is of the purest gold

Once there was a neighbor man As Kind as kind could be And he had a little dog named Beau A nicer pair you'd never see.
They would walk the lengthy block around (Beau was always free) to stroll So frequently then, you'd hear the sound "Oh, come on Beau!"
You could always count on them You'd see them come and go And when the neighbor was in a hurry You'd hear a rapid "Come on, Beau!"
It's been many a year Since the two of them strolled Around the lengthy block But the thought brings a smile And I think - for awhile I can still hear the same "Come on, Beau!"
That Neighbors Cat
Upon my garden bench she lies That neighbors cat With the blue, blue eyes.
She stares at me So bold is she To take command With a manner grand.
Who's cat is she? I have no clue That lazy cat With the grayish hue.
She is an uninvited guest But a kindly heart have I I'll let her languish on my bench Beneath the clear blue sky.
She seems to think my bench is best So, I will not disturb her rest She looks so very soft and gray I shall let her sleep again to-day.
